According to Peter Nettelbeck, Walter ran the leading Poll Dorset stud in Australia.
Walter was a Councillor within the Barossa Council, Chairman of the Gawler Show Society in 1961
and 1962 and was made a Life Member of Gawler Show Society in 1981. He was also Chairman of
the Curdnatta Recreation Park.
Walter married Betty Churchill- Smith and was a “nice bloke”.

Arthur was born in Port Wakefield on 1st May I 895, elder Son of William and Amelia Hewett (nee Tupper) was destined to be a Butcher, from the age of twelve years, when he left School to serve in his Fathers Butcher Shop. When William had to give up the shop
for health reasons, Arthur moved down to York Peninsular to work for another Butcher, it was here he learnt his trade, killing, and dressing Sheep, Cattle and Pigs.

In 1918 he joined the Army, did his training in Keswick, but didn't see active service, because the war finished, but it was there he really got interested in Photography, he and his friend Bill Coe, took and sold Photos of Soldiers who were leaving to go O.S. to give to their Girl friends and Families. This interest lasted all his life, by I 931 he had bought his first Movie Camera, later on a second, one was a 8mm. and the other 16mm. he was very thrilled when he got his first Coloured Film.

With the end of the War, Arthur returned to the only job he knew, and worked for a Butcher in Adelaide for a few years, but in 1922 he bought his first shop at the Northern end of Murray Street, the building was two story, with living quarters above the shop, (it also had a Cellar) he 'Batched' for a while but then he met Dora Jeanne Bishop, who had just moved into a small Farm house in Willaston, three months later, in 1923 they were Married. The Shop was quite primitive when he started, but over the years, he added cool rooms and a freezer, and even added an enclosed Verandah upstairs, William bought 100 Acres of Crown land at Willaston, where they built a modern Slaughterhouse and Yards, which he rented, and eventually sold to Arthur. <br />

Over the years, many men got their Butcher training from Arthur, but during W.W.ll. most of the men joined the Army, and so the staff was drastically reduced, but by then some of the family were old enough to be of some help. The family lived above the Shop for seven years, until after the Birth of the third Child, when they moved to the farm in Willaston, in 1934 with four children they moved to 19 Jacob Street Gawler, where Arthur lived until his death in 1968.

Arthur worked very long hours, but he still found time for the family, and his many interests, the Methodist Church, where he was the Sunday School Secretary, and Teacher, a Trustee, the Treasurer , leader of the Order of Knights, conductor of the young peoples Choir, and Tenor in the Evening Choir, and general 'Dogs body'. He was a Member of the Royal Adelaide Show, on the Committee of the Gawler Show, also Convenor of the Indoor Exhibits for a few years. <br />

Arthur played Football when he was young, Tennis later on, and when he retired he took on the love of his life BOWLS, he was also an avid fan of the Norwood Football Club, went to the finals if he could. Apart from singing in the Church Choir, he was an original member of the [[Gawler Choral Society]], which started in 1946, and continued right up until his death in 1968. He also encouraged three of his Children to sing, by starting the Hewett Quartet, and they all joined the Choir.

The Shop had been sold by 1950, but Arthur continued working, he still had land in Port Wakefield, where he kept Sheep, who in turn bred lambs, to be sold to the local Butchers, so he was now a Farmer and Grazier. He still owned the Willaston Property, but the local dogs killed any sheep kept there, and so he had his Son -in-law (Ralph.) plant Crops.

Australia Day Breakfast Celebrations

Sponsored by the Town of Gawler and chiefly organised by the Gawler Apex Club with tremendous support from Rotary Club of Gawler Light, Gawler Lions Club, Gawler Kiwanis, the Gawler Town Band and with local business assisting with the food, around 2000 people start attending at 6am with their chairs and tables to line up for their cooked breakfast and celebration.

Rachel Segar sang the National Anthem. There was a presentation of citizenship by Mayor Brian Sambell and the winners of the Town of Gawler awards were presented.
The weather was perfect.
