Private Sydney Roy Mackereth enlisted for WWI on 16 July 1917 at Adelaide, South Australia.

Private Mackereth was part of the 10th Infantry Battalion. 

Private Mackereth was Killed in Action at Merris, Frances on 24 July 1918. He was aged 23.

Private Mackereth is buried at La Kreule Military Cemetery, Hazebrouck, France.

He is remembered at the Adelaide National War Memorial (South Australia), Australian War Memorial, Roll of Honour.
