Allen Rodney Tiller ALIAtech. DipFamHist.
Born 1976: Hutchinson Hospital, Gawler. Parents: Lionel Rodney and Lynette Dianne (nee Plate). Wife: Karen Tiller Children, Sarah and Chantelle.
<Allen Tiller> was born in Gawler, living with his parents at 16 Twenty-first Street, Gawler South. He was educated at Evanston Primary School, then Gawler High School.
Allen worked at Sutch Carpets, before moving to Queensland, where he worked for South Corp Wines, Linfox and Penrite Oils. After returning to South Australia in 2007, Allen worked as a forklift driver in various places, before spending some years at Clipsal (later Schneider Electric) at Gepps Cross.
Allen founded <Eidolon Paranormal> in 2007, <SA Paranormal> in 2009 and <The Haunts of Adelaide> in 2012. In 2013, Allen filmed television show Haunting: Australia, which aired to an international audience. In 2014, Allen published his first book, The Haunts of Adelaide: History, Mystery and Paranormal”.
In 2016 Allen was invited by the City of Adelaide Libraries to be the inaugural ‘Historian in Residence’. The project, titled: “Haunted Buildings in Adelaide” was a world-first historical research project, looking into allegations of haunted buildings in the Adelaide Council zone. Allen was nominated for a history award in 2016.
In 2017, Allen was awarded the “Emerging Historian of the Year Award” by the History Council of South Australia. Also in 2017, Allen, in conjunction with the Port Adelaide Enfield Council, released a free, self-guided historically themed ghost walk of Port Adelaide called “Ghosts of the Port”.
The following year Allen, in conjunction with Anthony Frith and the Adelaide City Council and Adelaide Libraries, released a free audio-walking tour, called; “The Adelaide Ghosts and Ghouls Walking Tour”.
In 2019, Allen released his second book, a collection of poetry and short stories, titled: “<Shades of Black>”.
Allen has appeared numerous times on television show Today Tonight for paranormal-themed episodes, on SA Life, and in an un-aired A Current Affair episode.
Allen is married to Karen Tiller (nee Paynter). The two met in a cemetery, and Allen later proposed in the same cemetery.
Allen currently works as a library assistant in the Gawler Library Service. Allen is also an Executive Member of the Gawler History Team.
