Stained Glass and Leadlight Windows in Gawler Houses

There are many lovely old homes (and business premises) in Gawler that have stained glass/leadlight windows. We encourage residents to share with others the joy that these windows give.

Below is the explanation behind the photos submitted by George and Evelyn Roeger

The pictures of the jabirus were taken from a bark painting by an aboriginal lady
at Oenpelli which is north of the township of Jabiru.  Jabiru is situated at the site of Ranger Uranium Mine in the National Kakadu Park in the Northern Territory.

In about 2001 my wife and I, not long after commencing our retirement and living in Willaston had the opportunity to visit our son and his family at Jabiru where Stephen was working with the Northern Land Council. He drove us one day to Arnhem Land. We have the painting in our lounge room. I created the lead-lights from the painting using some left-over glass and hung them in a window, facing each other in our bathroom.

The other pictures were taken from templates in a book on lead lighting from which I acquired my 'skills'.
