Type of person Individual
Principal occupation General carrier. Main North Road, Willaston

As told by Mr. Fred Brooks - Mr. Sanders came to Gawler in 1932 and moved to Willaston in 1934. At the time, he used to break in young horses in conjunction with his carrying business which he had just started.

In 1937 he moved into a house on the Main North Road Willaston, where he continued to operate his carrying business using a Rugby truck. I can remember as a boy, Mr. Sanders carting hay to my mother's dairy, also picking up a calf or a couple of pigs to take to market. In 1952 Mr. Sander's son, Ron, went into partnership with him. In 1956 Ron Jnr. took over the business from his father, and in 1957 he purchased his first semitrailer. Around 1956 Ron bought his first mobile crane to work in with his carrying business, and since that time he has purchased a couple more for heavieer and higher lifting capacity. In 1970 Ron's brother, Ian, joined his brother and they later bought the grain and fodder store in 23rd Street Gawler South. In 1984 Ian left the business and went on his own, cleaning and pickling grain. In June 1989 Ron's son, Christopher, took over the carrying business, making the third generation running the business as Sanders Mobile Crane and Grain carriers, Willaston.
