The Old Post Office and Clock Tower is at 61 Murray Street.

Robert Haysom research says that it was a Charles Edson [a Millwright for James Martin Phoenix Foundry from 1848 - 1876] who suggested that the tower of the new Post Office should be extended to accommodate a clock.

On 28 February 1878 "the first conversation by telephone between Adelaide and Gawler eventuated as the a result of an experiment conducted by Mr. Chas. Todd."[1]
